It’s more than enough to me that this song is my youngest son’s absolute favourite. You should see his little face light up as I start singing it. You can see the cogs churning in his sweet little head as if to say “oh, yeah that one!”. We have started signing lately too (Makaton) and even have a specific sign just for this song. (The Speech and Language therapist did one for each of his favourite folk songs).
If you really listen to the words it is a throwback to the days of old when people lived in harmony with the seasons and nature and to when they respected the farmers for their hard work.
Here we are in the fields near me. If you notice under this video someone left the most lovely comment - “My baby was born and on her first drive home we are playing this song right this moment. Thank you for who you are : )”. Like I say, it’s enough for me that it’s Robin’s favourite but when I get a comment like this, well, …my work here is done.
