This is one of the songs of love rather than of loss (though it was close!). It takes the form of a conversation between a man and woman. He really likes the look of her and wants to marry her.
Come write me down, ye powers above
The man that first created love,
For Iβve a diamond in my eye
π Wherein all my joys and comforts lie. π
βI will give you gold, I will give you pearl
If you could fancy me, dear girl.
Rich costly robes that you shall wear
π If you could fancy me, my dear.β π
At first she refuses saying she does not want to surrender her freedom yet thanks.
ββTis not your gold shall me entice
To leave off pleasures to be a wife,
For I donβt mean or intend at all
π To be at any young manβs call.β π
Once he tells her βfine, Iβll go find someone else thenβ¦β she soon changes her tuneβ¦.
βThen go your way you scornful dame
Since youβve proved false I will prove the same.
βTis I donβt seek, but I shall find
π Some other fair maid to my mind.β π
βOh, stay young man donβt be in haste,
You seem afraid your time you will waste.
Let reason rule your roving mind
π And unto you I will prove kind.β π
And off they go and get married and live happily ever after! Ahhhhh, lovely hey.
So to Church they went that very next day
And were married by asking, as Iβve heard say,
And now that girl she is his wife,
π She will prove his comfort day and night. π
From our lovely walk in April to launch the album.
